Softr

6.7/10

No-code platform for building client portals, internal tools and project trackers on top of its own database or Airtable, Google Sheets and other sources.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

Softr is a Berlin-founded no-code builder that teams use to create client portals, internal tools and lightweight project tracking apps without writing code. Builders assemble apps from blocks such as lists, tables, forms, charts and Kanban boards, connected either to Softr's built-in database or to external sources including Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, monday.com, ClickUp, HubSpot and SQL databases. An AI Co-Builder can generate the database, pages, user roles and logic from a text description, and a workflow engine runs automations on button clicks, form submissions, schedules or record changes, including steps that call OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini. Pricing is per workspace rather than per seat. There is a free plan, and paid tiers (Basic, Pro, Business) are priced by the number of builders, app users, records, monthly workflow actions and AI credits. Extra builders and users are charged per head, and Enterprise is quoted by sales. Annual billing costs about two months less than monthly billing. Softr suits small businesses, agencies and consultancies that want to give clients a branded portal into project data, or teams that want a simple front end on Airtable. The main limitation is that it is an app builder rather than a ready-made project management suite. Reviewers find the block system rigid for custom layouts, and the review we used does not mention calendar or Gantt views. Costs also rise quickly as app users and records grow, and some higher-tier data sources are locked to Business or Enterprise.

Who Softr is best for

Good fit

  • Reviewers highlight client portals and multi-app agency use as core use cases.

  • Low entry price and a free plan let small teams build portals and internal tools quickly.

  • Client portals with record-level permissions fit the need to share project data with clients.

  • Builds internal tools with workflow automations on top of existing data sources.

  • Reviewers use it to ship MVPs and internal tools quickly without engineers.

Less suited

  • The free and Basic plans are affordable, but the per-workspace limits suit small client portals more than solo task tracking.

  • An Enterprise plan adds SSO, SCIM and Salesforce or Snowflake sources, though it is still a no-code builder with rigid layouts.

  • Offers SOC 2 Type II and record-level permissions, but costs rise steeply and records are metered.

  • It is a no-code block builder with rigid layouts, aimed at non-technical builders.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The AI Co-Builder generates the database, pages, user roles and logic from a text prompt, which cuts setup time for non-technical builders.
  • Connects to more than 21 data sources, so teams can put a portal on top of existing data in Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, monday.com or ClickUp.
  • Per-workspace pricing with cheap client user seats ($1 to $2 each) makes external client portals affordable.
  • SOC 2 Type II compliance, data hosting in Germany and record-level permissions suit portals that expose client data.
  • Apps, databases, workflows and forms are unlimited on every plan, and the free plan includes API and MCP access.

Cons

  • The block system is rigid, and custom layouts beyond the predefined options are not possible.
  • It is not a ready-made project management suite, and the review we used does not mention Gantt or calendar views.
  • Kanban and Inbox blocks reportedly cannot read Softr Databases, and each block connects to only one table.
  • Costs rise steeply between plans: Business costs $395 per month on monthly billing, and records, workflow actions and AI credits are all metered.
  • Users report slowness with large Airtable bases and mixed support quality on complex issues.
