Overview
Resend began in 2022 as an open source project and launched its email sending platform in 2023. It is best known as an email API for developers. Teams send transactional email through a REST API, SMTP, or official SDKs for Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP and Go, and many build their templates with React Email. Since 2024 it has also offered Audiences and Broadcasts for marketing email. These add a no-code dashboard editor, contact segments, topic-based subscription preferences, scheduling, unsubscribe footers, and open and click analytics. Automations are also available. Transactional and marketing email are billed separately. Transactional plans are priced by monthly email volume: a free tier with 3,000 emails, Pro from $20 a month for 50,000 emails, and Scale from $90 a month for 100,000 emails, with metered overage. Marketing plans are priced by contact count and have no send limit. The free tier covers 1,000 contacts, and Pro marketing starts at $40 a month for 5,000 contacts and rises to $650 a month for 150,000. Each marketing plan includes 10,000 automation runs, and extra runs cost $0.0015 each. Resend holds a SOC 2 Type II report and provides a pre-signed GDPR DPA. All customer data is stored in the US, and Resend is not HIPAA compliant. Resend suits startups and product teams whose engineers want application email and newsletters in one place. Its main limitation is the marketing toolset: reviewers say it is thinner than dedicated platforms like Klaviyo or Customer.io. Its documentation does not mention A/B testing, and it has no landing pages, SMS or e-commerce features.
Our Rating
Who Resend is best for
Good fit
Its generous free tiers, developer-first API and React Email support are aimed at early-stage product teams.
Developers building client apps can get by on the free tiers for small projects.
Less suited
Pricing is affordable, but setting up the API and email templates usually needs a developer.
It offers SOC 2 Type II and custom Enterprise plans, but it has no HIPAA support or ISO 27001 certification, and all data is stored in the US.
The Broadcasts editor is usable without code, but reviewers describe its automation and segmentation as lighter than dedicated marketing platforms.
Pros & Cons

- React Email templates and first-party SDKs for Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP and Go make it quick for developers to integrate.
- Resend holds a SOC 2 Type II report, and its GDPR DPA with Standard Contractual Clauses is signed automatically at sign-up.
- The Broadcasts no-code editor lets non-developers on the team send segmented, scheduled campaigns.
Cons
- Reviewers describe its marketing automation and segmentation as lighter than Klaviyo or Customer.io.
- Its documentation does not mention A/B testing, and it offers no landing pages, SMS or e-commerce features.
- Trustpilot reviewers report sudden account suspensions and slow support replies.
- Data is stored only in the US, and Resend offers no HIPAA BAA or ISO 27001 certification.
- Free, Pro and Scale plans keep data for only 30 days.
