Overview
UpCloud is a Helsinki-based infrastructure-as-a-service provider founded in 2011. Its core product is cloud servers that run on its own MaxIOPS block storage, and independent benchmarks have measured that storage with very low disk latency. Around the servers it offers GPU servers, private cloud, managed Kubernetes, file storage, managed object storage, managed load balancers, NAT and VPN gateways, a CDN, and managed MySQL, PostgreSQL, Valkey, and OpenSearch databases. It suits developers, SaaS companies, and European businesses that want an EU-headquartered provider with predictable pricing and strong I/O performance. Prices are fixed per plan in euros and include data transfer. UpCloud's site lists Starter plans from about 3 euros a month and Premium plans from about 5 euros a month, with custom configurations available. Simple Backup adds 10 to 60 percent to a server's price, depending on retention. Customers can manage everything through a REST API, a CLI, and an official Terraform provider. Partners such as Ploi integrate with the platform. UpCloud advertises a 100% uptime SLA that pays 50 times the downtime cost, and it holds ISO 27001 certification. Its main drawbacks are price and footprint. Reviewers find it several times more expensive than budget hosts such as Hetzner for similar specs. It also runs fewer data centre locations than larger rivals, about 13 to 15, mostly in Europe. UpCloud has announced a pricing update for November 16, 2026, so buyers should check the current rates.
Our Rating
Who UpCloud is best for
Good fit
UpCloud offers an API, a CLI, and a Terraform provider, and it has developer-focused plans.
Managed Kubernetes, managed databases, and load balancers cover typical SaaS stacks.
Low-cost starter plans and trial credit help, though the price per spec is above budget hosts.
Less suited
ISO 27001, private cloud, and the SLA help, but the footprint is smaller than the hyperscalers'.
Pricing is predictable, but there is no managed hosting control panel.
