Overview
Cloudflare runs a large global network that sits in front of websites and apps. It provides DNS, a content delivery network, unmetered DDoS mitigation, a web application firewall and free universal SSL. It also offers a developer platform. Workers runs serverless code at the edge, KV and Durable Objects store state, D1 is a serverless SQL database, and R2 is S3-style object storage with no egress fees. Containers and Workers AI are newer additions. Its free plan makes it common among freelancers and startups, while contract plans serve large enterprises. Pricing has two parts. Network plans are charged per domain: Free, Pro at $25 a month ($20 a month billed annually), Business at $250 a month ($200 a month billed annually), and custom contract plans. Developer services run on a Workers Paid plan with a $5 monthly minimum and metered overage, for example $0.30 per additional million Workers requests and $0.015 per GB-month of R2 storage. Business and contract plans add a 100 percent uptime SLA with service credits, PCI DSS compliance and chat or phone support. Cloudflare does not sell traditional shared hosting, VPS or dedicated servers, so it complements an origin host rather than replacing one. Its main weaknesses are support and concentration risk. Reviewers say Free and Pro users wait a long time on tickets, and global outages in November and December 2025 took down many major sites at once.
