Overview

Zoom AI Companion is the generative AI layer built into Zoom Workplace. In meetings it produces summaries, notes, action items, and answers to catch-up questions. Across chat, email, and documents it drafts and rewrites text. Paid Zoom Workplace plans (Pro and above) include the core meeting features at no extra cost. That covers unlimited meeting summaries and AI note-taking. Free Basic users get small allowances, such as 3 hosted meeting summaries, 20 AI queries, and 10 workflow runs per month. In June 2026 Zoom retired the Custom AI Companion add-on, which had cost $12 and then $20 per user per month. Its agentic features moved into ZoomMate. ZoomMate is sold standalone or as an add-on and costs $20 per user per month billed monthly, or about $16.67 per user per month billed annually. Each user gets 2,200 pooled AI credits a month. ZoomMate adds custom and prebuilt agents for sales, IT, marketing, and finance, plus deep research and agentic search across Zoom content and connected apps. It also adds triggered workflows and generation of slides, sheets, and documents. Connectors include Salesforce, Jira, Google Drive, OneDrive, ServiceNow, Microsoft, Oracle, and Atlassian. The tool fits organizations that already run meetings and chat on Zoom. Its main limitation is that it works inside Zoom. It does not take notes in Teams or Google Meet calls. Reviewers also report uneven summary and transcript quality, especially with external speakers and less common languages. Packaging and credit metering changed several times in 2025 and 2026, which makes budgeting harder.

Who Zoom AI Companion is best for

Good fit

  • Meeting summaries, notes and catch-up answers serve distributed teams that work on Zoom.

  • Meeting AI is included in paid Zoom plans at no extra cost, which suits small teams already on Zoom.

  • Credits are pooled with admin allocation, enterprise pricing is available, and connectors cover Salesforce, ServiceNow and Atlassian.

  • Pooled ZoomMate credits, admin allocation and enterprise connectors suit growing companies.

  • There is a free Basic allowance, and the paid features are cheap when added to existing Zoom seats.

Less suited

  • AI note-taking and summaries help advisers who spend their days in client meetings.

  • A prebuilt sales agent and a Salesforce connector exist, but reviewers note it lacks deep conversation intelligence.

  • Finance Teams
    5/10

It has prebuilt finance agents and an Oracle connector.

  • The free Basic tier and the low-cost Pro plan include meeting summaries.

  • It has prebuilt IT agents and connectors for ServiceNow and Jira.

  • It has prebuilt marketing agents and generates documents and slides.

  • Education
    3/10

It summarizes meetings but has no education-specific features.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Core meeting summaries and note-taking come at no extra cost on paid Zoom Workplace plans.
  • ZoomMate credits are pooled, and admins can allocate and monitor them.
  • Prebuilt agents and connectors for Salesforce, Jira, ServiceNow and Google Drive extend it beyond meetings.
  • The tool is easy for teams already on Zoom because it sits inside the meeting and chat clients.

Cons

  • It works only in Zoom and does not take notes in Teams or Google Meet calls.
  • Reviewers report inconsistent summaries and transcription errors, and external guests are sometimes labeled Unknown.
  • Packaging changed often: the Custom add-on rose from $12 to $20 and was then replaced by ZoomMate in 2026.
  • Trustpilot reviewers complain that support is hard to reach because a chatbot stands in front of human agents.
