QuickBooks Time

5.8/10

Intuit's employee time tracking and scheduling app, formerly TSheets, with GPS, job tracking and payroll sync for QuickBooks Online users.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

QuickBooks Time is the former TSheets, which Intuit bought in 2018. Employees clock in from a mobile app, a web browser or a shared tablet kiosk. Managers see who is working and where through GPS and geofencing, and approved hours sync into QuickBooks Online payroll and invoicing. The tool also covers shift scheduling, time-off requests, alerts and real-time reports. The Elite plan adds project tracking, with estimated versus actual hours, a project activity feed, timesheet signatures and mileage tracking. It suits small and mid-sized businesses with field or mobile crews, such as construction, trades and service companies, that already run their accounting in QuickBooks. Pricing has two parts: a monthly base fee plus a per-user fee. Time Premium lists at $20 a month plus $10 per user, and Time Elite at $40 a month plus $12 per user. Intuit often discounts the base fee for the first three months and offers a 30-day free trial. Both Time plans require QuickBooks Online, and Intuit also sells time tracking inside its Workforce payroll bundles. Intuit says it connects with more than 800 apps, but the strongest link is the native QuickBooks sync. The main limitation for project management buyers is that it is a time and attendance tool, not a planning tool. It has no task boards, Gantt charts or document collaboration. Reviewers also note that the base fee raises the cost and that rules and reports offer limited customization.

  • Reviewers say it is built for QuickBooks-based small firms with hourly or field staff.

Less suited

  • Mid-Market
    6/10

Business.com recommends it for large mobile teams, but customization is limited.

  • Hours sync into QuickBooks Online payroll, useful for bookkeepers on QuickBooks.

  • Finance Teams
    5/10

Cuts payroll data entry by syncing approved hours to QuickBooks.

  • HR Teams
    5/10

Time-off requests, scheduling and payroll bundles support people ops.

  • Maintenance Teams
    5/10

Service companies with mobile technicians can track time and mileage by job.

  • Elite project tracking exists, but no Gantt or boards and the focus is field crews.

  • It depends on QuickBooks Online, and reviewers mention outgrowing it.

  • Nothing for software teams; it is payroll time tracking.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Field crews can clock in from phones, with GPS and geofencing showing where they are working.
  • Approved hours sync straight into QuickBooks Online payroll and invoicing, which cuts manual data entry.
  • Reviewers say staff need little or no training to clock in and out.
  • The tablet kiosk with PIN sign-in and photo capture works well for shared job-site devices.
  • The Elite plan tracks estimated versus actual hours by project and task for job costing.

Cons

  • Requires a QuickBooks Online subscription, so it fits poorly with other accounting systems.
  • A monthly base fee on top of per-user charges makes it pricier than many rivals.
  • Customization of rules, schedules and reports is limited, according to reviewers.
  • Users report app freezing, slow loading and mobile sync lag.
  • It has no project planning tools such as task boards or Gantt charts.
