Otter.ai

6.6/10

Otter.ai is an AI meeting assistant that records, transcribes, and summarizes Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet calls for individuals, teams, and sales organizations.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

Otter.ai is an AI meeting notetaker. Its bot joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet calls, transcribes them live with speaker identification, and then writes summaries and notes from templates. AI Chat lets users ask questions across their meeting history. Imported audio files can also be transcribed, and there are iOS and Android apps for in-person recordings. It suits professionals, small teams, and sales groups who want searchable meeting records without much setup. On Enterprise, Otter adds a Sales Notetaker, SSO, SCIM, domain capture, and an API with webhooks. Pricing is per user. The free Basic plan allows 300 minutes a month with a 30-minute cap per conversation. Pro costs $16.99 a month, or $8.33 a month billed annually, and includes 1,200 minutes. Business costs $30 a month, or $19.99 a month billed annually, and includes unlimited meetings, conversations of up to 4 hours, activity logs, and usage analytics. Enterprise is priced through sales, and HIPAA compliance is an Enterprise add-on. Pro and higher plans include Zapier, Salesforce, and HubSpot integrations. The number of users who can sync to a CRM is capped by plan: one user on Pro and five on Business. An MCP server lets assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT pull meeting history. The main limitation is accuracy. Reviewers often report errors with accents, jargon, and crosstalk, along with generic speaker labels. Users also complain that the bot auto-joins meetings and shares transcripts with attendees who did not expect it.

Who Otter.ai is best for

Good fit

  • The free plan and low-cost Pro annual plan suit individuals who mainly need transcripts.

  • It transcribes and summarizes Zoom, Teams and Google Meet calls.

  • Per-user pricing and simple calendar-based setup work well for small teams.

  • Business plan analytics, activity logs, and unlimited meetings fit mid-size teams.

  • Salesforce and HubSpot sync and an Enterprise Sales Notetaker target sales use, though lower plans cap the number of CRM users.

  • Cheap entry plans and a Zapier integration fit startups, though the minute caps can pinch.

Less suited

  • Searchable client call notes are useful, but auto-join and transcript sharing raise client-privacy concerns.

  • Enterprise has SSO, SCIM, an API, and a HIPAA add-on, but privacy complaints and a reported 2025 class action may concern compliance teams.

  • It can transcribe in-person recordings and imported audio files.

  • Content Creators
    4/10

It can transcribe imported audio, but it is built for meetings.

  • HIPAA compliance is only available as an Enterprise add-on.

  • Searchable records of interview and meeting conversations help, but it has no HR-specific features.

Pros & Cons

  • The free plan gives 300 transcription minutes a month, which is enough to evaluate the tool.
  • Pro billed annually costs about $8.33 per user per month, which is cheap for the category.
  • Live transcription plus AI Chat across past meetings makes it fast to look up decisions.
  • Pro and higher plans connect to Salesforce, HubSpot, and Zapier, and an MCP server exposes meeting history to assistants like Claude.

Cons

  • Reviewers report accuracy problems with accents, jargon, and overlapping speakers, plus generic speaker labels.
  • The bot can auto-join meetings and email transcripts to attendees, which generates privacy complaints.
  • CRM sync is capped by plan at 1 user on Pro and 5 on Business, and lower plans have strict minute and length limits.
  • Trustpilot reviewers complain about slow support and difficult cancellation.
