BigTime

6.7/10

BigTime is professional services automation software that gives consulting, accounting, architecture and engineering firms time and expense tracking, project budgeting, resource management and invoicing.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

BigTime is a professional services automation (PSA) platform for firms that bill clients for their time, such as accounting practices, consultancies, and architecture and engineering firms. It covers the whole cycle from time and expense capture to project portfolio tracking, budgeting, billing and invoicing, and automatic reconciliation with accounting systems. Higher plans add multi-currency expenses and invoicing, a custom reporting center, project templates, custom cost and rate tables, and multi-level approvals. Enterprise adds an Enterprise PSA, services CPQ, and resource management. Pricing is per user. Essentials is listed from $20 per user per month, while Advanced, Premier and Enterprise are quoted by sales. Quotes, Resource Management and the Data Hub are sold as separate add-on modules with no public prices. Integrations lean toward finance: QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage Intacct and Lacerte on all tiers, and Xero, NetSuite, Dynamics GP and Business Central on Enterprise. It also connects to Salesforce, HubSpot, Jira, Google Calendar and BambooHR, and has a REST API. Single sign-on through Okta, Entra ID and OneLogin is an Enterprise-tier option. BigTime is not a visual work-management tool. It has no Kanban boards, whiteboards or team chat, and reviewers mention a steep learning curve and a narrow app marketplace. Teams that mainly want collaborative task boards will find general project management tools a better fit.

Who BigTime is best for

Good fit

  • It is built around billable time, project budgets and invoicing for professional services firms.

  • Capterra reports that about 90% of its reviewers come from small businesses, with accounting the top industry.

  • Time-based billing and profitability reporting suit client-service agencies.

  • Mid-Market
    7/10

Premier and Enterprise tiers add multi-level approvals, ERP connectors and SSO.

Less suited

  • There is no free plan, and a reviewer quoted on Secret's BigTime page calls the pricing high for freelancers and small firms.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Time and expense capture flows straight into invoicing, and reviewers single out the simple billing and pre-calculated report fields.
  • Deep accounting integrations, including QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage Intacct and Lacerte, plus NetSuite and Business Central on Enterprise.
  • Highly rated support: Capterra users score customer service around 4.8, and reviewers mention live chat.
  • Consistently strong ratings on G2, at about 4.5 from more than 1,700 reviews.
  • Supports DCAA compliance for government contractors.

Cons

  • Only the Essentials tier has a public price, so buyers must talk to sales for higher tiers and add-ons.
  • Reviewers report a steep learning curve and odd field naming.
  • Its app marketplace is narrow compared with general project management tools.
  • It lacks visual work-management features such as Kanban boards and whiteboards.
