Overview
Baserow is an open-source, no-code database platform from Amsterdam-based Baserow B.V. It looks like Airtable. Teams build relational tables and view them as grids, galleries, and forms, plus kanban, calendar, and timeline views on paid plans. That makes it workable for project tracking, content calendars, and lightweight operations apps. It also includes an application builder for internal tools and client portals, which supports up to 500 external users per workspace. Dashboards arrived in 2025, and a native automation builder (still labelled beta) handles triggers, actions, routers, and AI steps. Kuma, the built-in AI assistant, can create tables, views, and automations from plain-language requests. Baserow sells per user. Cloud Free covers 3,000 rows and 2 GB per workspace. Premium costs $12 per user per month, or $10 billed yearly, and raises the limits to 50,000 rows and 20 GB. Advanced costs $22, or $18 billed yearly, and adds role-based permissions, audit logs, and data sync. Enterprise is quoted on request. The self-hosted open-source edition removes the row and storage caps, though premium views and AI still need a paid licence. Integrations include Zapier, Make, n8n, an open REST API, an MCP server, Airtable import, and on Advanced, data sync with Jira, GitHub, GitLab, HubSpot, and PostgreSQL. It suits cost-conscious teams that want data sovereignty or self-hosting. The main limitation is that it is a database first, not a dedicated project management suite. It has no native time tracking, chat, or mobile apps, and its integration ecosystem is smaller than Airtable's.
Our Rating
Who Baserow is best for
Good fit
It has a generous free tier, no seat minimum, and per-user pricing well below Airtable's.
Low cost and an open API let startups build internal tools quickly.
The Advanced plan adds role permissions and data sync at moderate cost.
Less suited
The application builder supports client portals with up to 500 external users.
Self-hosting, audit logs, and SOC 2 claims help large organisations, but it lacks mobile apps and a mature ecosystem.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Open-source self-hosted edition has no row, storage, or API caps, which suits teams that need data sovereignty.
- Paid seats cost about half as much as Airtable seats, starting at $10 per user per month on annual billing.
- Native Airtable import and a familiar grid interface make it easier for Airtable users to switch.
- Built-in application builder can turn databases into client portals with up to 500 external users.
- Open REST API, an MCP server, and connectors for Zapier, Make, and n8n.
Cons
- Kanban, calendar, and timeline views require a paid plan, even when self-hosted.
- No native iOS or Android apps, and reviewers report poor mobile and embed compatibility.
- Viewer roles, data sync, and direct support only start at the Advanced tier.
- Automation builder is still in beta, and the integration ecosystem is smaller than Airtable's.
- Reviewers note fewer templates and possible performance issues with very large databases.
