Overview
Assembly is a client portal platform for service firms such as agencies, consultancies, accountants and other professional practices. It was previously called Portal and then Copilot, and took the Assembly name in September 2025. Clients log in to a branded workspace where they can message the team, share files, fill in forms, sign contracts, pay invoices and see tasks. Internal staff work from a lightweight CRM and a shared team inbox. Assembly includes more than 30 pre-made apps, an app store for embedding outside tools such as Calendly and Airtable, and an AI app builder that runs on monthly build credits. Pricing is charged per workspace and tiered by active client contacts and included internal users. A free plan covers 5 contacts and 1 internal user. Starter costs 49 USD a month, or 29 USD a month billed annually, for 50 contacts. Professional adds custom domains, API access and an automation builder for up to 500 contacts. Advanced adds unlimited contacts, enforced MFA, audit logs and a HIPAA BAA. Enterprise adds SSO and a sandbox workspace. Extra build credits cost 0.60 USD each and extra apps cost 5 USD a month each. Security includes SOC 2 Type II and AES-256 encryption at rest. Assembly is not a full project management tool. It has no Gantt charts, no task dependencies and no native time tracking, and its automations are simple, so teams that run complex delivery work usually pair it with a separate PM tool or use Zapier.
Our Rating
Who Assembly is best for
Good fit
Reviewers praise how quickly service firms can set up a branded portal for each client, which is how agencies work with theirs.
Its mix of messaging, contracts, forms and invoicing matches how consultancies run client engagements.
Small service teams can run client communication and billing in one place, with no contract on self-serve plans.
Less suited
The free and Starter plans cover a solo user with up to 50 contacts, but white-label branding needs a much higher tier.
An Enterprise plan adds SSO and a sandbox workspace, but the project management features stay basic.

- Messaging, a CRM, invoicing, contracts, forms and files share one client login.

- SOC 2 Type II, AES-256 encryption at rest and a HIPAA BAA on Advanced suit regulated firms.
Cons
- Project management is basic, with no Gantt charts or dependencies.
- There is no native time tracking or scheduling.
- Automations lack conditional branching, and there is no native mobile app.
- Reviewers report a high cost and friction with international invoicing.
